Rich Wood - Returns Co-ordinator (Aftermarket Technician)

L.B. Bentleys Ltd offered an apprenticeship scheme at the local Stroud College where Rich completed his City & Guilds, NVQ2 and ONC in machining and engineering. With 9 years of experience he has worked in various areas of the company before his current position in the Aftermarket section. This job certainly has its unique challenges where there is the need to develop a wide range of product knowledge and gain a wider experience of the production processes. The main skills and talents required to deliver this role successfully are the ability to troubleshoot, identify problem areas and apply the necessary solution in line with customer requirements. The variety of the job is a key factor in this role and to Rich’s job satisfaction, with the need for good time-management skills.

Paul Hatherall – Product Support Supervisor (Filter & Dryers)

With 32 years of experience within L.B. Bentleys Ltd, Paul began his working career straight from school where he spent his first 4 years completing a City & Guilds apprenticeship in Turning & Fitting. He works in a very close knit team delivering a product which is bespoke to customer requirements and is engineered from start to finish with equipment that is the best in the industry. The role Paul fulfils is very varied dealing with all stages of production from customer orders, running the workshop to Installation and regular servicing of the installed products on the customer sites, for example, he has M.O.D. clearance and is an approved ’Competent Person’ to work on all National Grid sites. His role requires a wide range of skills and talents from machining and computer skills to customer liaison and supervisory skills, this mean that no two working days are the same.

Mark Eavers – Production Supervisor (Machine Shop)

Mark joined L.B. Bentley Ltd with many years of machine engineering experience from working in the aerospace industry to running his own fabrication business. His main draw for moving here was to work for a Company who developed and made their own product whilst having a job that provided a work/life balance. When Mark joined L.B. Bentley Ltd he was struck by how friendly everyone in the business was and adapted to his new working environment extremely quickly. For the role Mark fulfils he needs to have a varied cross section of skills from man management and reporting to hands on technical skills. One of the main skills he has developed is to the ability to think laterally and be able to apply a different approach and methodology to the technical process. He has found this opportunity to develop, re-engineer and improve the production process by applying multi-manning an extremely satisfying challenge.

Melvin Stephens – Assembly Foreman

With 30 plus year of experience within the oil and gas industry Melvin joined L.B. Bentley Ltd 15 years ago having worked previously for McEvoy. On joining he was initially involved with both subsea valves and dryers, however, with the development of the subsea valves sector of the business he moved to become the first dedicated valve assembler and tester. Melvin feels that the working environment, which has improved radically since the move to Kingfisher Business Park, is excellent. He was delighted to be involved in the design and hands on build of the testing areas, using his knowledge and experience from the test cells in Woodchester. His favourite part of the job is the hands on assembly and testing, where he supports his team with the physical checking, ensuring that the paperwork is double checked. Melvin says the best part of his job is when it all goes to plan and the testing proves that they’ve got it right the first time.

Nick Beard – Assembly Technician

Nick came from a background of motor mechanics working for years within the motor industry, with this experience and the skills learnt from doing piece work, he developed many transferrable skills that relate to assembly work within L.B. Bentley Ltd. Nick has now been worked within our Assembly and Test area for 6 years, he feels he has grown in confidence and has developed a deeper knowledge base. He finds his direct team a very close knit unit who work well together sharing their knowledge and experience from the supervisor down, this makes it a very satisfying area to work in. Nicks favourite part of the job is the satisfaction from being involved in the fully process from assembly to test and then the product going out to the customer.
